Days out

Walking: Situated on the 180-mile long Tarka Trail, Eggesford Barton offers a number of beautiful walks on trails and footpaths to Eggesford & Heywood Forest, where you can see the ancient Mott & Bailey. The area by the River Taw is unspoilt and an ideal place to watch the wildlife such as Kingfishers and Otters. Local maps are available to help you plan your route. Mountain biking is also popular in Eggesford Forest.

Fishing: It’s a pleasant stroll through the woodland and pastureland to the River Taw, where 800 metres of river frontage awaits guests, and you might catch a salmon or trout if you are lucky. Guests are requested to bring their own tackle and we suggest you bring waders to get to the best pools.

Barnstaple & Exeter: Don’t miss the Pannier market in Barnstaple and the special kind of welcome this historic capital of North Devon has to offer. To the South is the historic city of Exeter famous for it cathedral and with a wealth of resturants and nightlife.

Dartmoor & Exmoor: Eggesford lies between the two moors and both may be reached within the hour. Walkers dreams, these two areas of outstanding natural beauty are a must if you’re in the region.

Beaches: The wonderful beaches of North Devon are within an hour’s drive of Eggesford. Saunton Sands (National Trust beach where dog walking is allowed all year through), Woolacombe and Croyde offer some of the best surfing in the country.
